See the 2007 London MacLive Expo from Inside - Work for Intego!

If you’re a Mac fan, you’ve probably always wanted to see the London MacExpo from inside: from behind the tables and in the booths, working hand in hand with the exhibitors. Well, here’s your chance.

Intego, the leader in Macintosh Internet Security software, is looking for a couple of Mac fans to work at our booth for the 2007 London MacLive Expo, which will be held at the the National Hall, Olympia, Kensington in London, from October 25-27, 2006.

We are seeking candidates with Mac OS X backgrounds, who have a good knowledge of  Mac OS X software, and who like to show others how things work. You’ll need to be hard working, friendly and patient. Familiarity with Intego software is a plus.

We are seeking several people for our booth:

Hosts/Hostesses will help encourage customers to visit the Intego booth, will direct the customers to the right people on the stand, and distribute brochures, as well as other show tasks. You should be friendly, presentable and outgoing.

Demonstrators will help demonstrate Intego software to potential customers. You must be a Mac expert, with strong knowledge of Mac OS X and experience working with a variety of software and explaining it to others. You will be expected to conduct demonstrations of all of Intego’s software to potential customers in the booth. We are looking for four demonstrators.

Salespeople will assist in direct sales of Intego applications to customers.  This will include everything from providing product information, entering sales data, and possibly explaining features as well. You should have at least a basic knowledge of how to operate on a Mac, and be friendly and outgoing. We are looking for two salespeople.

Learn How to Keep Your WiFi Network Fully Secure

“It’s ten o’clock—do you know who’s using your wireless network? If you haven’t changed the default network name or admin password someone could be eavesdropping on your email, plucking your passwords out of the air, or sending spam through your Internet connection right now! When you’re using a wireless network—whether a Macintosh with AirPort gear, Windows with any Wi-Fi equipment, or a Wi-Fi handheld like the iPhone—you’re exposed to risk unless you take steps.”

Wireless networking experts Glenn Fleishman and Adam Engst have just released a new edition of their ebook, Take Control of Your WiFi Security, a 114-page downloadable ebook in PDF format, that is available for only $10. While programs such as Intego NetBarrier protect your Mac from hackers and vandals, using WiFi networks can raise other risks: eavesdropping, snooping, data interception and more. Learn how to secure your network, and learn about safe computing when you’re using public hotspots. Make sure that all your surfing is safe and secure!

Another Security Update for Microsoft Office 2004

Microsoft today released a security update for Office 2004, which:

“fixes a vulnerability in Word 2004 that an attacker can use to overwrite the contents of your computer’s memory with malicious code.”

Microsoft says that you must have already installed the Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac 11.3.7 Update.

“To verify that you have installed this update, select the Microsoft Component Plugin file in the Microsoft Office 2004/Office folder on your hard disk, and then on the File menu, click Get Info.”

You can download the updater file from the link above, or you can run Microsoft AutoUpdate, which you’ll find in your Applications folder.

What’s Your Password?

No, don’t tell; really. Your password is important. Or, more correctly, your passwords are important. You have one for your user account, one for your e-mail account, and dozens of others for web sites you visit, FTP servers, network shares and other services. Managing your passwords can be a real headache; fortunately, Apple includes its “keychain” that centralizes your passwords.

But you need to know how to use the keychain and how to make it secure. In addition, you need to know how to choose secure passwords. Joe Kissell, writing in Macworld, has an article entitled I Will Use Good Passwords that will tell you the best way to choose and manage passwords to make sure your data and your Mac remain secure. It’s a good idea to read this, even if you think your passwords are secure; you may learn some useful tips for working with passwords.
